Artwork of the Day: “Polaroid Transfers 009″ by Tiffany Mulherin
Today’s Artwork of the Day is “Polaroid Transfers 009″ by Artexpo New York 2010 exhibitor Tiffany Mulherin. Tiffany is a graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography and has spent the past 5 years as a professional photographer in Los Angeles and Denver.
While Tiffany’s specialties are fashion and fine art photography, she has also focused her
attention on the fading field of Polaroid emulsion and image transfers—like the artwork above.
The Polaroid Image Transfer Process is a time-consuming technique by which Polaroid peel-apart film is used to create an original print on a broad range of traditionally non-photographic surfaces (Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper is Tiffany’s paper of choice). The final image is a function of a series of variables including temperature, humidity and the actual hand-peeling process.
You can see more of Tiffany’s original Polaroid transfers next week at Artexpo New York 2010, booth #853. If you don’t have your tickets yet, it just takes a few moments to register online.
