Live ArtBattles at Artexpo, Saturday, March 27!
Art Battles: the Original Live Art Competition
Artexpo New York consumer days (Saturday & Sunday, March 27-28, 2010) are going to kick off with an exciting Art Battle!
Starting at noon on Saturday, March 27th, four artists will participate in a live painting competition at the Artexpo Sculpture Garden. The artists will paint through 3 exciting rounds with special guest judges for a chance to win a SOLO booth at Artexpo New York 2011. Get there early to get in on all the action…
We have some awesome artists lined up. Here’s the lowdown:
1) Coming from a background rich in the arts, Ben Angotti weaves traditional drawing and painting with fantasy and dream-like imagery. He is highly influenced by classic Renaissance and Japanese samurai symbolism. Ben often uses these themes combined with images of modern sex and violence to make uniquely beautiful and pulpy scenes. For Ben, the visual impact his work inflicts upon a viewer is more important than the idea or meaning behind it.
2) Marthalicia Matarrita graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Arts and was a student of SUNY New Paltz. Her work delicately balances among expressions of beauty and decay, savagery and innocence. In 2006, Marthalicia formed M-Squared Art Productions with her 2 brothers. A collective grounded in the four elements of hip-hop, M-Squared integrates art and music into the party landscape of New York City with Marthalicia’s specialty in live painting.
3) Born and raised in the Bronx, Andre Trenier lives to create. A graduate of LaGuardia High School and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, he has continued to craft his skills working in any and every material available to him. In 2004, he co-founded Tangible Thoughts LLC, a creative collective best-known for customizing high-end fashion and sneakers. Driven by a competitive nature and a passion for all things artistic, Andre continues to amaze viewers with not only his skill, but his attention to detail and pursuit for perfection.
4) Julie Freil won the 2/27/10 ArtBattles Miami competition and is being flown up to Artexpo in NYC courtesy of Scion. Born in Miami, Florida, Julie says her greatest artistic influences are vast and many, including: cave paintings, Pre-Colombian art, African art, Jean Dubuffet, graffiti, Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee, Jean Michele Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Choe, Os Gemos.. and many more.
If you’re not familiar with ArtBattles, here’s a little background. The ArtBattles Mission is to produce live art events and competitions that expose emerging artists to the masses.
