SOLO Success Story: Peter Colbert
Canadian artist Peter Colbert sold 18 paintings at Artexpo New York 2010—his first-ever time exhibiting at Artexpo.
“It was a great experience,” he says, “It was lots of fun meeting the public and making sales.”
Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Peter has exhibited widely across Canada and in 2007 claimed a prestigious award at the Exposition d’Art Montreal. This year, he decided to exhibit in the [SOLO] pavilion for independent artists at Artexpo New York to extend his reach to the American market.
“I absolutely love coming to New York, one of the greatest cities in the world. I met a lot of galleries from the United States and abroad, and people I would otherwise never have had a chance to meet. This was my first year, and I would have to say the experience was an excellent one.”
Peter’s work is characterized by impressionistic imagery, bold strokes and a striking use of color. His paintings and limited edition prints are found in an ever-widening group of galleries, private collections and corporations across North America.
Already a success in the art world, Peter says that exhibiting at Artexpo has helped him to further expand his professional reach.
“I would say my professional network has already has expanded a fair bit, due to Artexpo. Also, it’s always fantastic to get inspired by the huge range of work at Artexpo, including large galleries.”
To independents artist who are considering participating in Artexpo, Peter offers this advice:
“Nothing is better than going out, meeting the public and industry insiders. It’s truly baptism by fire.”

To Peter from one of your fellow exhibitors at Artexpo from one row over,
It was great to meet you and brain storm about your art and mover things around in your booth.
I have a great picture of the two of us in your booth with your lovely artwork and a few empty spaces on the walls where sold pieces use to be.
As you mentioned, “Nothing better then to meet industry insiders,” with the exception of meeting fantastic artists such as yourself.
Keep me posted on your continued success!
