Artwork of the Day: Portal, Andrée Amarica
Andrée’s favored media are acrylic, ink and collage, but for her the creation and observation of art are ultimately spiritual techniques:
The intent of my work is to elevate the soul of the viewer by bringing it to a different level of perception where illusion becomes reality and reality expands into a new world of multi-dimensional structures filled with pure energy and vibrant, colorful shapes. These shapes manifest themselves into a panorama of organic images which allow the viewer to travel to parallel universes and other dimensions.
When the imagination of the viewer is awakened, the painting begins to reveal itself and magic happens in which the painting becomes a “co-creation” between the artist and the viewer. This visual experience leaves the viewer with a sense of renewed wonder in looking at the beauty of our universe.
Andrée’s art approaches nature at its most fundamental, elemental level, yet in a playful and colorful way. The abstract point of view she takes to water, fire, air and earth allow the observer to break away from old patterns of perception and — as in “Portal,” our Artwork of the Day — enter new points of observation. Each painting creates a world that enables expansion from a point of limited and linear awareness to a field of all possibilities.
Born and raised in Quebec City, Canada, Andrée grew up in an artistic and musical family. After studying music and piano for eight years, Andrée moved to Europe and began her painting career inspired by the blessings of a spiritual master. During a trip to France, she met with several high-profile art dealers from England and Spain who invited her to the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) in Paris.
Upon her return to Canada, Andrée started painting full time and in 1997 joined Enriched Bread Artists (EBA), an artists’ cooperative, where she was a member for three years. In addition to selling in Canada, Andrée was approached by an art collector from Switzerland who assisted her in expanding her artistic horizons to Europe and other international markets. Her paintings are now owned by many private collectors in Europe, the US, Canada and the Caribbean. One of her paintings made the cover of Homes and Land magazine in 2009.
Andree has exhibited her art at Galerie D’Art Orleans, Gloucester, Canada; Galerie Jean-Claude Bergeron, Ottawa, Canada; Enriched Bread Artists, Ottawa; Galerie Calligramme, Ottawa; and Art Oasis, Boone, North Carolina, USA.
Andrée will be exhibiting her latest series of work at Artexpo New York 2011. We look forward to welcoming her. To learn more about Andrée Amarica and her work, please visit her site, colorfulartgallery.com.
