The 39th annual Artexpo New York got off to an exciting start last night as a crowd of more than 7,500 art lovers descended upon Manhattan’s Pier 94 for a dose of visual-art inspiration.
The day started off with trade-only hours, during which designers, gallery owners, architects, art publishers, and other industry professionals got a first look at the work on display from over 400 exhibitors, comprising paintings, photography, sculpture, glassworks, and more from over 1,000 artists from 40+ countries around the world. Then, from 4–8 p.m., the doors opened to the public, and attendees flooded in to take part in the show’s Opening Night Preview Party festivities.
Showgoers sipped Louis Jadot wines, sampled hors d’oeuvres, and grooved to the tunes of DJ Keith Butler as they took in all that opening night had to offer, from the impromptu Jordan Matter photo shoot, featuring a dancer posing en pointe atop a wine bottle, to the unveiling of the 2017 Poster Challenge winner, Worlds Unite by Juan Luis Perez. And several exhibitors got special honors as the RMG team handed out this year’s Artexpo Awards—stay tuned for the full list of winners!
Today at Artexpo, attendees can look forward to Meet the Artist events and live art demos throughout the day, as well as Art Labs featuring the South African Art Collective and the [PLATFORM] of the Year Awards. From 5–7 p.m., enjoy Saturday Night at Artexpo, where the 2016 [PLATFORM] winner will receive his award and there will be more wine, music, and art for all to enjoy.
