I am a doctor by profession , an attending anaesthesiologist at the West Suffolk Hospital in the United Kingdom . Having recently ( 2017) re-discovered my childhood hobby of doodling and sketching ,I decided to turn it into paintings on canvas .
My aim is to exhibit and sell the paintings to raise money for a charity called Operation Smile, which provides specialist surgeries to children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate in the developing world. The cost of each such surgery is approximately 250 USD. My very first painting on canvas was gifted to the children of Cebu city, Philippines who underwent these life changing surgeries.
This painting is one of my earliest works ,painted in 2017. It is inspired by the Indian traditional tribal art “Warli “which is very popular among the tribal communities of western India. The walls, doors, floors and windows, courtyards of their mud houses used to be painted with basic colours made from brick and chalk powder, hence red , white or a combination of both. I have used bright colours to bring to life this beautiful traditional art form.
